Lighting Trends We’re Loving (4 Tips)

Lighting Trends We’re Loving

We’re shining a light on the latest fixture trends that we’re loving here at Studio McGee. These are the materials Shea and the design team are using in the homes of our design clients, as well as the placement and styling tricks they’re adhering to to make sure these fixtures meld seamlessly into the overall design scheme of the space. Read ahead for four lighting trends that will define interior design in 2023, and see more from Shea in the video here.

No. 01 | Embrace the Imperfect

Our latest lighting collection at McGee & Co. showcases this trend in abundance. Think crater-filled ceramics and raw cement, like the Abbott Table Lamp and the Dora Table Lamp, and jagged-edge stone and rough-hewn plaster, like the Elliot Pendant and the Santorini Sconce. These organic, unpolished materials exude warmth and introduce some always-welcome texture to a space.

No. 02 | Remedy Bedside Asymmetry

When you’re faced with a difficult layout, Shea and the design team recommend leaning into the asymmetry, choosing to adapt the typical design rules in order to bring balance to a bedroom. “When the spaces on the sides of the bed are uneven, I like to lean into the asymmetry,” Shea explains. Choose a nightstand on one side and a desk or table on the other, then with help from a stack of books, place a task light on one side that stands at the same height as a table lamp on the other side. Balance achieved.

No. 03 | Source From the Earth

For the greatest inspiration in lighting, look to Mother Nature. Some of the greatest materials we can source aren’t capable of being reproduced by man. Right now we’re loving the marble and wood elements you can find in our McGee & Co. lighting collection—like the oak Percy Table Lamp, the alabaster Bree Table Lamp, the marble of the Loris Flush Mount, and the walnut and leather Astrid Floor Lamp.

No. 04 | Make a Grid

When you have a low ceiling, want to keep an open sight line in a space, or just want to update your home, go for the trick that Shea and the design team utilize: a grid of flush mount light fixtures. They cling close to the ceiling but aren’t recessed. “This is a great tip; it adds a lot of visual interest,” Shea notes.
