This 6-bedroom Dallas home has a spiral staircase in the primary suite

This Dallas home has a transitional design, plenty of large living areas and bedrooms that provide ample space. Listing agent Marti Voorheis of Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate said the home was originally built as a custom design for a large family that wanted room to entertain.

The home at 10405 Somerton Drive is part of the Northway Hills neighborhood, which is near the intersection of Midway Road and Walnut Hill Lane. It is just a few blocks from the Episcopal School of Dallas.

There are six bedrooms, six bathrooms and one half-bathroom in the home’s 7,438 square feet of space. There’s also a third-level bonus space that is not counted in the square footage. Voorheis said it was originally intended to be a bunk room.

Double front doors lead into the home’s foyer, which is open to the living room. The home’s main living spaces have an open concept design. The living room, which is next to the home’s foyer and main staircase, has a fireplace on one end, bookcases for storage and two sets of French doors that lead outside. The kitchen on the opposite end of this space has an island with space for seating. The kitchen’s design includes white cabinets and marble countertops. There is a coffered ceiling in the shared living room and kitchen space. The dining room is off to one side of the kitchen and also has a coffered ceiling. There’s also a catering kitchen and a pantry accessible from the main kitchen and a laundry room on the first level.

Voorheis said that on a sunny day, you don’t have to turn on lights in the house because sunlight is so plentiful in the home.

“There is great natural light throughout the house,” she said.

Voorheis’ favorite space is the sunroom that sits just off of the kitchen. It’s like a keeping room (a sitting room to keep the cook company) because you can see it to the left of one of the kitchen walls. This sunroom has French doors that access the front patio.

The home’s primary suite is on the first level and has a sitting area and a fireplace. A spiral staircase in the primary suite leads up to an office on the second level. The office is also accessible from an entrance on the second level.

There’s one more bedroom on the first level of the home which is a guest suite near the garage. The remaining four bedrooms are on the second level. Two of the bedrooms have a unique design that could make it easy to convert them into an upstairs primary suite. There’s a sliding pocket door between the two bedrooms that can be closed to create two rooms or opened to create one space. The bathroom is a Jack-and-Jill-style layout, and there is a large shared closet.

There’s also a game room with a wet bar, a media room and a large balcony on the second level. The third floor bonus space is accessible from the staircase. The space is not yet finished, but that level does have wood floors and air conditioning.

The home’s backyard includes a covered patio with an outdoor kitchen, a pool and a spa.

The property is on the market for $2,749,000.
